Detectives from the state police were requested to look into the shootings that took place around 4:19 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Argyle Street in New Haven, said state police.
The shooting stems from an incident which originated in the town of Hamden. On Tuesday, Hamden Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting the attempted armed robbery of a newspaper delivery carrier at the Gas and Go Gas Station located at 144 Arch Street in Hamden, state police said.
An officer from the Hamden Police Department and an officer from the Yale Police Department located the suspect’s vehicle in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Argyle Street in the city of New Haven, state police said.
In an attempt to make contact with the suspect, the officers initiated a motor vehicle stop. During the interaction with the suspect’s vehicle, numerous rounds were fired by both officers on the scene, state police said.
A 22-year-old female sustained non--life-threatening injuries and the suspect was not injured. The female passenger received medical attention on the scene.
The female passenger and the suspect were both transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for non-life threatening injuries/ evaluation.
The female passenger is currently in stable condition.
No arrests at this time, the investigation continues.
